Our warm and welcoming team is here to support you every step of the way.
Your First Visit
Prior to the appointment
Prior to your appointment, one of our bubbly team members will ask you to fill out a New Patient Form. This provides us with information about your medical history, dental history and chief concerns, which will be then addressed in the consultation.
Consultation
The thirty-minute consultation appointment is a very straightforward process. Our Orthodontists will begin with a discussion of your chief concerns. This will be followed by a comprehensive orthodontic clinical examination involving measurement of extra-oral and intra-oral dental features. An indication of the orthodontic treatment required is discussed, and general cost-estimates given.
Diagnostic Records
If orthodontic treatment is indicated, orthodontic records will be taken to enable comprehensive treatment planning. The following records are commonly required:
1. OPG X-ray
2. Lateral Cephalometric X-ray
3. Digital Study Models
4. Clinical Photographs
Second Consultation
This second consultation appointment commonly takes place following analysis of your orthodontic records. This is where we have a comprehensive discussion of your orthodontic problems and a treatment plan is presented in both verbal and written format. You are also provided with a written quotation, which you can present to your health fund to obtain a rebate.
The Treatment Process
Fitting appointment
We are here to reassure you that the fitting process is not painful! The first braces or clear aligners appointment takes approximately one hour. The appointment begins with us cleaning and painting some solutions on your teeth for bonding. This is followed by the placement of the brackets/attachments and wires.
Following the fitting of appliances, our friendly assistants will provide you with instructions on how to care for your braces or clear aligners, and what to do if there is a problem such as a loose bracket or sharp wire. This information can also be found on our resources page.
Regular adjustments
Braces need to be adjusted in order for the teeth to move. Generally, we see you at 6-8 weekly intervals to perform these adjustments. This may involve simple, routine tightening, or changing of wires. If you are undergoing clear aligners treatment, we may see you at slightly longer intervals to check your progress, change elastics and issue more aligners.
Deband Appointment
Congratulations, the day has come for your braces or clear aligners removal! At this appointment your braces or attachments are removed, your teeth are cleaned and clinical photos are taken. We also take a scan for your clear retainers to be made on the same day to ensure no tooth movement occurs.
